Reading stone

An old reading stone from the castle of Martinice, near Prague. A fun object that is suitable not only for reading but also as a print for letters and papers, for example.

In the old days, reading stones were used instead of reading glasses due to their magnifying glass effect. The first reading stones were invented in the 14th century in Italy and China. Then they were not glass but natural materials, such as rock crystal.
